July 29th-my 38th birthday!! I was supposed to be 38 and 38 today, but I guess baby had other plans. All is well. Baby is 5 days old. PHU came to visit today, I'll put his wts to date below. We had a barbeque in the backyard, just the five kids and three adults. Things are going really well with MIL here, its nice to be able to focus solely on rest and recuperation and baby. EBF since last night, no formula at all, baby feeding q2-4h, mostly cues around the 3.5hr mark. He's a really fast nurser, taking less than 20mins to do both sides. We need to take him in on Tuesday for a wt. He's 60grams away from having lost 10% of his birth wt, so I need to go truly demand feeds with him now. Otherwise he's looking good. Milk really came in this evening, but no engorgement, overall not too uncomfortable. Ran to Walmart with dh tonight.
July 30th-Baby is 6 days old-I feel amazing! Not using the T3's today, just the advil and es tylenol-I've lost some wt so far. I was 259 the morning of surgery, 260 the night we got home, and 250 today! I can actually bend my ankles and toes somewhat now! I still have my night reflux, which I had really hoped would be gone, but I know I need to lose weight. Got one nap in today.
July 31st-baby is 7 days old!! I have a one weeker! 248lbs this am, feeling a little more sore and bloated today, had two naps, just seem to get teary in the late evenings just before bed when I'm quite tired and feel a bit anxious about the upcoming nights. Overall they've been good with babe nursing every 3.5 hours, and if he won't settle right afterwards I wake dh up to settle him and I get back to sleep. Last night I did both feeds on my own. I feel really confident with EBF this time, and Joey is such an efficient eater. I remember it taking Nolan 40mins to feed and always fighting with losing his latch; Joey seems to find his own latch and does so much better overall. He's had his mustard yellow poops since the 29th, his cord is nearly dried off, I know it'll be gone within a few days. He's had two baths at home, one in hospital. He HATES being cold! He is such a dream baby, I can't believe he's finally here. How many tears and dollars did we shed trying to have him? And he came when the timing was perfect! What a miracle! Dh and I ran to Costco and did errands with the baby today. He didn't cry at all in the carseat and in fact slept the entire time we were uptown, and I fed him when we got home. Joey has consistently slept btwn all feeds by day, except he usually has two half hour awake periods a day, and his "witching hour" is usually from 23-0200h after that feed in there where it takes awhile for him to settle for sleep. Dh usually just goes in for a quick snuggle and to replace his ucky a few times. He's in the nursery in his crib, with the Angelcare monitor on sound and movement, and I have the air purifier on and also the heartbeat sounds going. Dh put a dimmer on his light last night and it really helps a lot with night feeds. Joey has his soother half the night, its almost easier to let him fall asleep without it since he cries if he loses it most times, and is too little to keep it in.
I just can't believe how cute and sweet he is, and how quickly I bonded with him. He truly is our little miracle baby!
